Devlog #2: Opening Doors to the Future
After a couple days of fiddling around with the code and doing more research, I am happy to show off the newest addition to DopeFish, doors and switches!
Now any wall on a map that is set to trigger a door to open will do so! Door speed is matched as closely as possible to the movement speed of doors in Doom proper, however this may require tweaking later on once the system is optimized. You'll also notice that sound effects will trigger when a door opens. These sounds are loaded dynamically from the wad file at run time!
There is still much work left to do on the switches system, currently all switches are the kind that require the player to press a "use" button, yet in the classic Doom engine a switch can be toggled by shooting it, pressing it, or walking over it. None of these should be terribly difficult to implement as the systems they rely on are already in place <3
